Bio: 

Before coming to Solorio Ms. Barratt taught Art and Photography in England and worked in art galleries including The Art Institute of Chicago. She has a bachelors degree in Art History and Fine Art and a masters degree in Art History. Her art practice explores personal responses to place and narrative through the mediums of photography, textiles and writing. In her free time she enjoys reading, yoga and running, she is currently training for her first marathon.

 

ALONSO Salgado

Bio:

Mr. Salgado received his BA in Art and Teacher Certification at North Park University in 2008. Currently, he is attending graduate school at North Park University. He is expected to complete the Masters of Arts in Educational Leadership in the summer of 2016.

In his spare time, he creates his own artwork. He is a portrait artist and is inspired by American artists Chuck Close and Kehinde Wiley. Most of his current work is focused on his mentees and students who he spends time advising. He also enjoys running and mild weightlifting.

Andrew Sons

Education: 

Bachelors of Music in Music Education, Miami University, Oxford, OH

 

Bio: 

Mr. Sons directs the beginning choir students in the Voices of Solorio, and the Advanced Vocal Ensemble. He loves sharing his passion for singing and music with Solorio's talented students. Outside of school, Mr. Sons sings with the Chicago Chorale. With them, he has performed all over the city of Chicago and toured to Spain, France, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, and Finland. When not singing, Mr. Sons enjoys playing the piano, Crossfit, reading, and traveling.

 

Mr. Sons completed his bachelor’s degree at Miami University in Oxford, OH where he sang with the Miami Men’s Glee Club and the Miami Opera Theater. He has also completed course work in Orff-Schulwerk and Kodaly at DePaul University in Chicago, IL.

MADELEINe Mollinedo

Beginning Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band

Bio: 

Madeleine Mollinedo is the Director of Bands at Eric Solorio Academy High School, Chicago Public Schools (CPS). Prior to her position at Solorio Academy, Ms. Mollinedo taught general and instrumental music, and developed the first ever concert band program at Northwest Middle School from 2006-2013. Her middle school band program performed annually at the CPS Citywide Choral and Band Festival, and her band students were involved in other city-wide distinguished music programs, including the CPS All-City Jazz Band, Jazz Links Youth Ensemble, Ravinia Jazz Scholars, and the Louis Armstrong Legacy Program.

 

Originally a Chicago Native, Ms. Mollinedo was a Tuition Free Conservatory trumpet student at the Merit School of Music throughout elementary and high school, student of Michael McLaughlin. From 1996-2002, she participated annually with the Gallery 37 Latin Big Band sponsored by the city of Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Ms. Mollinedo attended Lincoln Park High School and performed in the Jazz band, Concert band, and Marching band. As a junior, Ms. Mollinedo also received a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Interlochen Center for the Arts Summer Camp. In 1999, Ms. Mollinedo was chosen as a Ravinia Jazz Scholar and was able to attend the Jamie Aebersold Jazz Camp.

 

Ms. Mollinedo received a full scholarship to attend Indiana University at Bloomington where she earned her Bachelors in Music Education degree in 2006. While at Indiana University, she studied with Edmund Cord, Joey Tartel, David Baker, and Pat Harbison. In 2010, she earned her Master’s degree in School Leadership (Type-75) from Concordia University- River Forest, IL.

 

From 2009-2012, Ms. Mollinedo was a director and co-conductor for the CPS All-City Elementary Jazz Band. Ms. Mollinedo is currently an active freelance professional trumpet player, and has been featured with bands such as the “Sonora Santanera” “Noteworthy,” “Take Five,” “Chicago Outskirts,” “Orquesta Bambu” and “Sabor Latino.” Ms. Mollinedo currently directs the Jazz Links Youth Ensemble under the sponsorship of the Jazz Institute of Chicago.
